Wardrobe Tips
It is a special occasion, so pick your clothes carefully.
Wardrobe tips for a great photo:
Avoid loud colours and complicated patterns (definitely no logos) – remember the focus is on you and not on the clothes;
My advice to both men and women is to wear bloc colours as stripes and checks can easily distract;
Business photos: If possible wear a piece of clothing that contains the colour of your brand e.g. colour of your company logo. This will add a nice touch when uploaded to your website or Social Media platforms.
Avoid shorts and short sleeve tops. The focus should remain on the face;
Non-reflective glasses are okay but reflective ones can be problematic. If possible try to obtain a frame without the lenses, or go without;
Your nails should be manicured and any chipped nail polish touched up.
If it’s a group or family portrait, ensure clothing is coordinated and in the same colour range. Avoid bright contrasting colours and patterns.
If possible, wear new clothes. Worn out or tired looking clothes show up in photography and won’t do justice to your brand.
Finally, keep accessories and jewellery to a minimum. Less is best.
Remember that dark colours i.e. black, navy, charcoal etc. absorb the light and make you look slimmer. White and pastel colours reflect the light and make you look bigger.
Professional Headshots
“When you step in your clothes, you step in your role”. If your position requires you to wear a suit and tie then you should wear a suit and tie in your photo shoot. Admittedly the trend has been more relaxed in the last few years and the business shirt and suit jacket without a tie, is a safe bet. Similarly, if you wear a uniform at work, it is best to wear it for the session.
As far as colour is concerned, pick mid-tones such as blue, green, purple or wine as they are classic and have widespread appeal. Clothing with logos on them are a definite no-no, unless it’s your company’s branding.
